As per the preamble of the "UP Corporation Act (Uttarakhand Amendment Act,) 2001, the Corporation was formed for the 'better preservation, supervision and development of forests and better exploitation of Forest produce within the State of Uttarakhand (then Uttarakhand) and for matters connected there with." The UAFDC has, therefore, been engaged in the harvesting of the forest produce, allotted to it by the Forest Department along with the sale of timber, firewood, bamboo and minor-minerals.
The main objectives are:
Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation (UAFDC) is a statutory body constituted by the State Government. The Corporation was formed for the better preservation, supervision and development of forest, and for better exploitation of forest produce within the State and for all matters connected therewith.
The Corporation has been progressing forward not only in its financial aspect but has also taken a big leap in the direction of diversification of its activities. Over the years, UAFDC has grown into a pivotal institution ensuring that the forest wealth of Uttarakhand is managed sustainably and made available for broader economic development.
The Corporation's scope of work now extends well beyond its original mandate and includes:
UAFDC operates under the supervision of the State Government and works in close coordination with the Forest Department to ensure that all extraction and commercial activities comply with forest conservation norms and environmental guidelines.
